Vol. 2 · No. 1 · October 2026

The Rise is back.

Hi neighbor,

The last time you heard from me, it was the night before the runoff. I asked you to vote and bring someone with you. A lot of you did.

We came up short. But I meant what I said on the trail. This was never about one race. It was about a city where more of us know what's happening and how to plug in.

So The Rise has a new home. It now lives at Rising Together, a nonpartisan civic space for Sioux Falls. No campaign. No party. No fundraising asks. Just plain talk about our city, real ways to show up, and the good stuff.

03 · Hype corner

Something big is coming to Falls Park.

The old quarry by Falls Park, with signs telling its story

The old quarry just east of Falls Park helped build this city. Its pink Sioux Quartzite is in the Old Courthouse Museum and the Washington Pavilion. Now a $15 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund will help turn it into a place for all of us.

I was at the kickoff on Thursday. The city didn't unveil a finished plan. It handed out crayons. Kids drew ziplines, floating saunas and, my favorite, safe road crossings. The message was simple: listen first, then build together.
