Your city, your say.

Hi neighbor,

This week, City Hall takes up downtown parking. There are also a few good chances to be heard, and some good news from Phillips Avenue.

Election Day is Nov. 3.

You can vote early now. Register by Oct. 19.

01 · City Hall

Downtown parking is about to change.

The council gets its first look Wednesday. The final vote is Oct. 20. Here's what's proposed, per Dakota News Now and the agenda:

  • Meters up to $2 an hour, from $1.50 today
  • Paid parking later into the evening
  • Bus Depot and Mural ramps cut to 75 cents an hour
  • Higher, simpler parking fines

Wed. Oct. 14

First look, 6 p.m.

Tue. Oct. 20

Final vote

If you come downtown for a concert, Falls Park or dinner, this affects you too.

You can speak for three minutes at either meeting. Both are at Carnegie Town Hall, 235 W. 10th St.

Still pending: the Smithfield permit. A judge sent it back to the city, which can appeal or vote again. Read my plain-words explainer.

A new home for music.

Thursday, I joined the ribbon cutting for the Levitt's new Sweetman Atrium. It means music camps and community programs can run all year, not just in summer. And it was paid for with private gifts.

See it for yourself at Sioux Falls Listens on Oct. 21.

04 · Your turn

Is your neighborhood organized?

Friday night, the Downtown Library was packed for a neighborhood mixer. Neighbors went on a scavenger hunt, sketched ideas for The Quarry and tasted Downtown Turtle, a new Katz Creem flavor they picked themselves. Read about the night.

Nights like that happen when neighbors get organized. But only 24 Sioux Falls neighborhoods have a registered association. Check the map, then hit reply. What's working where you live? What's missing?
